Alternatives to TV Time
Posted: May 7, 2008 at 11:24 am

Is the TV on way too much at home? Follow these tips to help break the boob-tube habit!

  • Have a plan. Be prepared to offer alternative activities to TV or video games (from board games to shooting hoops to exploring a nearby park)
  • Be active with your kids. Experts say that what kids want more than anything else is time with their parents. To give them that, don’t just send them out to play — play with them!
  • Keep television in a central location like the family room. Remove TV and video games from kids’ bedrooms.
  • Plan TV time in advance. Turn the TV on for pre-selected shows and turn it off afterwards.
  • Avoid using TV as a reward or punishment.
  • Practice what you preach. Kids aren’t the only family members who should be on a TV budget
